Cannabis clones are cuttings taken from a healthy, mature “mother” cannabis plant that are then rooted and grown into genetically identical copies of the original plant.

Cloning cannabis offers several benefits over growing from seed, including:

Faster time to maturity – Clones skip the seed germination and seedling stages, allowing them to reach the flowering stage more quickly.

Guaranteed female plants – Since clones are genetically identical to the mother plant, they will all be the same sex (female).

This avoids the need to grow out and discard male plants.

Consistent genetics – Clones will have the same desirable traits as the mother plant, such as aroma, potency, and yield. This allows growers to reliably reproduce their favorite strains.

Space-saving – Cloning eliminates the need to grow out many seedlings to find the best phenotypes, saving valuable grow space.

However, clones can also be more susceptible to pests and diseases compared to seedlings, and they may lose some of the “hybrid vigor” seen in first-generation (F1) plants grown from seed.

Proper selection of a healthy mother plant and a sterile cloning environment are key to successful cannabis cloning.
